The Important Role of Executive Functioning and Self-Regulation in ADHD

ADHD is a poor name for a misunderstood problem.

Attention Deficit is close to the opposite of the core of the problems: sufferers are more likely to have an attention surplus; taking in way too much information, not being able to screen out information that is unimportant.

Hyperactivity is mainly seen in children, and very few still display hyperactivity as adults. It is more of a constant restlessness, mostly on the inside, a brain on overdrive.

And Disorder? Well… I, for one, would prefer dysfunction.

I think I’d prefer to think of it as Executive Dysfuntion from now on. Any thoughts?
