“Genie, you’re free.”—The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

Such was posted on Twitter as a tribute to Robin Williams last night, but this metaphor goes far beyond his role as the voice of the genie in Aladdin. Yesterday, the world lost not only a valuable member of the entertainment community, but also a valuable member of the gifted community. Although it has not been confirmed, the rumors and suspicions that his death was the result of suicide make this even more tragic, not only for the 63-year-old and his family, but also for the gifted community as a whole.
